These items were obtained from an antique store in Nova Scotia, each sold separately, but purchased at the same time. Unsure of the year I obtained them.

Research: Eliza Ann Smith (1842 – 1891), daughter of George Smith (c1800 – 1869) and Mary Rose Elizabeth (Webber) Smith (1806 – 1882). Eliza Ann Smith was married to John George Mitchell (1841 – c1924).

Set of photos from Springfield, Hampden, Massachusetts. Although found in Nova Scotia, I could not find connections to Nova Scotia families during my research of the photos. However, there is a strong tie between the New England States and Nova Scotia, so there may be a connection, I just wasn’t able to find it.

Caption: On front: “Florence A. Pomeroy”

Research: I believe this to be Florence Augusta Pomeroy. She was born August 21, 1862 in Connecticut. Married George Pirnie in 1884 in Springfield, Hampden, Massachusetts. Died October 8, 1938 in Springfield, Massachusetts.

The photographer is C. L. Moore of Springfield, Massachusetts.

Research: I believe this to be Fannie L. Houston, b. between 1861 – 1864 in Springfield, Hampden, Massachusetts. Daughter of Osmon N. Houston and Louisa A. Wilde. Fannie married Winford Newman Caldwell.

Research: Possibly Sarah Beach b. about 1874 in Springfield, Hampden, Massachusetts. Parents were Joseph Beach and Delina (Colby) Beach.

Research: I believe this is Elizabeth (Lizzie) Darling b. abt. 1860 in Springfield, Hampden, Massachusetts. She married Edward Lyman Janes.

Research: Possibly Jeannette Harriet Chapin b. July 1, 1861 and married in Springfield, MA, to Emery C. Watson, in 1885. She died June 27, 1886 in Springfield. Her parents were Charles Wells Chapin and Emily A. (Kidder) Chapin.

Research: Unsure of this one. There is a Harriet “Hattie” A. Parker b. 1856 in Springfield, MA. Married Calvin C. Fuller in 1877. Daughter of Seth W. Parker and Cynthia H. Hills.

There is also a Harriet A. Parker b. about 1854 in Massachusetts. Parents are Almon Parker and Maria E. Chapin.

Another Harriet M. Parker b. in 1869 in Springfield, MA. Married a Thomas C. Rogers and is living in Chicago by 1920.

Research: Best candidate is Lucy B. Billings. Born in 1862 in Springfield, Massachusetts. Married Clarence S. Luitwieler in 1885 in Boston. Parents were Horace M. Billings and Eliza M. Church.

Research: There was a Walter Greenough Morse b. in 1862 in New Hampshire. He was married in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1895, to Elizabeth Crosby Kimball. His parents were Virgil K. Morse and Sarah M. (Greenough) Morse.

Research: There is a Frank W. Carter b. 1860 in Massachusetts. Married in 1886 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to Laura E. Gratz. Parents were Charles W. Carter and Alathea (Dickinson) Carter.

There is also a Frank Whittier Carter b. in 1892 in Merrimac, Massachusetts, to Charles N. Carter and Anna F. (Fellows) Carter.

Research: Not certain of which Mary Deering this would be, as there are a number of them.

Research: The Vale Colliery operated in Thorburn, Pictou, Nova Scotia, as a coal mine. There is a John Greener and his wife Elizabeth A. (Howliston) Greener listed in the 1871 census as living at the Albion Mines in Pictou County. Good possibility this is Elizabeth.

Phinney, would be Daisy’s mother, Sarah Jane (McNeill) Phinney (1852 – 1933), born in Wentworth, Cumberland, N.S. and died in Massachusetts, USA.
