I believe this whole box of photos are all related to the Cameron/Wilson family that were originally from Advocate Harbour, Nova Scotia. There are a mixture of items – loose pages of photos, falling apart photo albums, loose photos, etc. As there are so many photos, I will be posting them in sections.
I believe they originally belonged to the family of Joshua W. Cameron (1855 – 1927) and his wife Jane Amelia Wilson (1860 – 1933). They appear to have had seven children, one of them being Mabel I. Cameron (1896 – 1990). I believe the photos were passed down to her. Mabel married Maxwell J. Fulton (1886 – 1945) and had a daughter, Jeanne E. Fulton, whom I believe the photos were then passed to. Mabel and her husband moved to Massachusetts where their daughter was born.
P. S. I would like to give a big thank you to Ferne Lunn Oliver, who is the admin of a wonderful Facebook group called “Advocate Harbour, N.S. and Area … Families & History”. She has helped in the identification of a number of photos, particularly in locations. As I am not knowledgeable of the area around Advocate, it is so great to have a resource person to go to for help!
P.S.S. Also a big thank you to Mark Fulton for his help in the identification on a number of photos! Much appreciated Mark!
Item #1 – A collection of loose pages that are in rough condition. The pictures are not in chronological order. Although I tried to put the pages in some kind of an order, they are still a bit scattered in regards to the time frame. I’ll be grouping the photos together in pages, and noting when the pages change. Approx. 165 Photos. They are glued onto the pages and when I have been able to, I’ve tried to check the backs of the photos for writing.
There are also a number of loose photos in the box and I’ll be adding them in where appropriate.

Research: Maxwell John Fulton’s parents were Thomas Fulton and Helena Lillian Kearney. The headstone has Thomas as 1949 – 1911 and Lillian as 1861 – 1902. I have found Thomas Fulton’s statistics on ancestry. ca as b. July 23, 1848 and died March 6, 1911. Helena Lillian Kearney b. January 21, 1864 and died about 1901. Nova Scotia Historical Vital Statistics has a Thomas Fulton who died on March 6, 1911 at 60 years of age. This would put his birth year at 1851. The person making the return is Dwight L. Fulton, who would have been the brother of Maxwell John Fulton. So, there are discrepancies on both parents’ statistics.

Research:
Researching Maxwell J. Fulton and Mabel I. Cameron, I have found that sometimes a daughter named Carol is listed with their names, other times Carol is listed as the child of Maxwell J. Fulton and Dorothy G. Quint. In Mabel’s obituary of March 7th, 1990, it has two daughters surviving her, Carole Fulton and Jeanne Fulton. (Obit from Facebook Group “Advocate Harbour, N.S. and Area … Families and History”)

Caption: On page: “Art & I Canobie Lake, N. H. August 5, 1941”
Research: There is a Canobie Lake, in Rockingham County, New Hampshire, USA.
On a separate page that has no photo, but does have a caption, it says, “Art Somes – U.S.M.C. Home on furlough – ’42.” Research definitely shows him as Arthur Davison Somes, Jr. b. June 29, 1925 in Lynn, Essex, Massachusetts. He was declared missing in action in WW II. Some have his date of death as November 20, 1943 but he was Officially declared dead on November 20, 1945 in an incident at Tarawa. Information regarding Arthur Somes can be found on-line.

Research: I believe this is the home where Mabel I. (Cameron) Fulton grew up and where a number of earlier photos were taken. It would be the Joshua W. Cameron and Jane A. (Wilson) Cameron homestead.

The next set of photos are the last I have of the Wilson/Cameron/Fulton family. They are loose photos that I’ve tried to group together in subject matter, so the dates are varied.
After posting three generations of one family’s photos, I am both sad to see it end but happy to move on to another family’s album to post. I still have unanswered questions regarding some of the photo subjects but further research will have to wait for another day.
Out of this posting, I was able to connect with Ferne Lunn Oliver who hosts a Facebook group called ” “Advocate Harbour, N.S. and Area … Families & History”. I am so looking forward to meeting up with Ferne this summer (2022) to get a guided tour of Advocate, and the area, and to see the Cameron/Wilson homestead that is so prominent in many of the early photos! Now, on to the last of the photos…..

Research: An early photo that appears to have Jane A. (Wilson) Cameron, Emily W. Cameron and Mabel I. Cameron in the back. Possible Guy E. Cameron sitting on the left and Whitney E. Cameron to his right. Whitney was born May 17, 1900, so I’m guessing this photo would be sometime between 1905 – 1910. Probably at the Cameron homestead in Advocate.
