“The first three photos are of one of the ships we owned, the third photo is that ship covered in ice. My 3rd Great Uncle, John William McNamara, sailed that ship with Leprosy patients to Molokai Island in Hawaii for treatment. His entire ships crew left him on the spot, except for one man, and the two of them sailed all the way there and back. Upon their return, they were caught in an ice storm which ruined the ship.”

“The fourth photo is of the Alpha Hotel, formerly called Union House. My 3rd Great Grandparents, David & Elizabeth McNamara of Parrsboro owned and operated the Hotel until they sold it in 1908. David was in his 70’s, and Elizabeth had already passed prior. After it was sold, it was called the Broderick Hotel. It burned down in 1969. It was located at 130 Main St. in Parrsboro. Currently there is an Art Studio there, and an info plaque with a picture of this Hotel. “

“My Great Grandmother Mary “Johanna” Hillgrove, when she was 16 in 1898. Her mother was a MacDonald, from Baileys Brook, NS. Johanna married my Great Grandfather Vincent “Orrie” McNamara and they lived in Green Hill, NS. Their farm was next to the Glooscap Campground.”

This photo “I’m assuming is from communion at St. Brigid’s in Parrsboro, as my family all attended there for four generations, and a lot of them are buried there.”
