Photo #1
Caption: Written on back “I wanted a picture of my black cat “Tomisery Atkins” but he would not stay “put”, so I had to hold him while Carrie snapped him. Do you admire my gardening uniform. The hole in my apron shows up fine.” Amy Cutten
This is a loose photo on a cardboard backing.
Research: Jean Baxter MacDonald (1894 – 1966) married Edmund Cutten Peers (1894 – 1960). Jean and Edmund’s mothers were sisters.
Jean’s mother was Georgianna Ellen Cutten (1867 – 1900) married to Duncan Goldie MacDonald (1866 – 1937).
Edmund’s mother was Levernia Elizabeth Cutten (1862 – 1932) married to Ephraim E. Peers (1863 – 1932).
Both Jean and Edmund had a 1st cousin, once removed, named Amy Elizabeth Cutten who had a sister Caroline Robertson Cutten. They were located in Horton, Kings County, N.S.
Photo #2
Caption: “Grandma & Uncle Arch”
Location unknown.
Research: I cannot find an Uncle Arch for Jean Baxter (MacDonald) Peers but her father, Duncan Goldie MacDonald (1866 – 1937) had an Uncle Archibald G. McMullen (1847 – 1912) married to Elizabeth Ann Bertha Robertson (abt.1847 – 1892). The woman in the photo could be Jean B. (MacDonald) Peers’ grandmother, Rachel McMullen (1842 – 1923) married to Alexander MacDonald (1836 – 1887).
This would be a photo of brother and sister.
Info: In an email (Oct. 10/2020) from A. Ubelhor, a granddaughter of Gerald Willis MacDonald , she confirms that this is Rachel McMullen and her brother Archibald G. McMullen.

Research: In an email (Oct. 10/2020) from A. Ubelhor, she does think that this is Jean’s step-grandmother, Ella Morton (McRobert) Cutten (1858 – ?) married to Charles Edgar Cutten (1855 – 1904). Ella would have been the mother of Jean’s step-mother, Nella Frances Cutten (1881 – ?)

Caption: “Eric Barnstead, me, Kenneth & Grace”
Location unknown.
Research: There was an Eric Barnstead born in Halifax on June 20, 1913, died in Halifax on October 29, 1919. According to my kinship report, Eric was a 4th cousin of Jean B. (MacDonald) Peers
Jean had a half brother, Duncan Kenneth MacDonald (1913 – 1982) who would have been approximately 19 years younger than her.
In an email (Oct.10/2020) A. Ubelhor confirmed that it is Kenneth in the photo.
Photo #38
Caption: “Pidgy”

Research: Jean’s brother, Alexander “Hugh” MacDonald
Photo #39

The location would appear to be the Halifax Gardens, in Halifax, N.S.

The location would again appear to be the Halifax Gardens, in Halifax, N.S.

Photo #51
Caption: “Oldest and youngest of old McMullen family”
Location unknown.
Research: Woman on the right looks similar to the woman in Photo #1, Rachel McMullen who married Alexander McDonald, and was Jean B. (MacDonald) Peers’ grandmother. I believe these ladies would be part of the Rachel McMullen family.
In an email (Oct. 10/2020) from A. Ubelhor, the following is sent : “Rachel McMullen is on the left and if the caption is correct then that should be the youngest McMullen sister, Martha Ann McMullen, 1865-1943.”
Martha Ann McMullen married Hiram David Archibald (1858-1934).
